A place where songwriters can share ideas and inspiration.
I'm putting my travel diaries onto my personal blog if anyone's interested in our adventures check out:
There's this Swedish songwriter who wants to cowrite...has some finished texts...ideas...let me know if you guys are looking for some good inspiration and I can give you his email address.
Just wrote a new song about a friend who was just diagnosed with cancer...it pretty much flowed out...been also teaching a student how to write... I call it magic or revelation...you know that point where the melody comes to fit the chords or to fit the lyrics you've written..that's something nobody can teach, you just gotta have the guts to try it. I bet a lot more people could write songs if they believed they could. What have you guys been writing about lately? Billy, you're going through an aweful time right now...I'm hoping and praying you'll get a song to express all that's going on in you.
Just had an interesting realization (or more like a refreshed realization) about myself and probably a lot of musicians out there... Lots of us are what psychology calls melancholic temperments...which means emotional...my best songs come when I am in major mood swings. duhhh!! But the better best songs are when I've learned a valuable lesson through my mood swing and can share it with the world...my personal success story. People like those kinda songs...anyways...a thought not too deep with not too many major revelations, but true, don't ya think? BTW, welcome Billy and Olli to the blog contributors list, can't wait to hear your "revelations" big or small. ;-)
Do you guys all work with rhyming dictionaries? It's a great way to get some inspiration sometimes... You start with a word, look it up and use the rhymes to build a funny story. There's even a rhyming dictionary online: www.rhymer.com I haven't worked with it as much as my rhyming dictionary here at home (hard copy)...but if you try it out, let us know what you think. In the states they also have these books similar to "....for Dummies" called The Everything...Book. There's one called The Everything Songwriting Book by C.J. Watson. It's really great...he puts all the basics and beyond into one book.
